Chapter Fundraising
John Bircher <publicrelations@purpleheart.org>
(Bruce's Note: In Oklahoma you can't call it a raffle-you're supposed to call it an "Auction")
Patriots: The article below is an excellent example, not only for how an MOPH Chapter can get the word out about their existence, but also an
excellent way to earn some money for the Chapter. WELL DONE CHAPTER 305! John Bircher

The winner will receive an M1A1 Carbine rifle
The Salem-Albany chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is holding a fundraising raffle to earn money to support its activities.
Chapter commander Charles Upton of Albany said the group is selling tickets for a chance to win an M1A1 Carbine rifle. The World War II-
vintage firearm is a new commemorative weapon.
Upton said the raffle adheres to strict state regulations concerning firearms and all those buying tickets must be at least 18 years of age and
must undergo a background check before the weapon can be claimed.
Tickets for the event are on sale for $5 each or $20 for five. The drawing will be held July 4, 2012.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart provides services, help and information for veterans, specifically combat wounded veterans.
The group supports ROTC and JROTC activities at local schools and offers scholarships for families of purple heart recipients and other military
personnel. In addition the group collects food for needy veterans, speaks at schools and hands out flyers on flag etiquette.
Upton said the group meets the third Sunday of each month in Albany at the Phoenix Inn Suites. Those wishing to take part in the raffle can get
tickets at Rods and Razors Barber Shop, 2845 Pacific Blvd. in Albany and at Corvallis Rental, 1245 S.E. Third St. in Corvallis. Tickets are also
available by contacting Upton at 541-926-4833 or commander305@q.com.

Bruce's notes on fund raising:
1) Advertise your Chapter meetings, events and what you do in the newspapers, on flyers, on the radio/TV and get city Purple Heart highway
markers out. You can't get (either) members, notoriety or money unless you're on the public's radar screen. Honor fallen/wounded policemen
and firemen using the MOPH's First Responder Program-and advertise this.
2) Ask for money each year (hoping to get a permanent dispensation from one or more of them) from businesses large an small, whether part of
a fund raiser or not. Try getting your own website up and advertising for money there. Make sure your 990N IRS stuff is up to date.
3) Do fund raisers like golf tournaments, selling refreshments/produce/military paraphernalia at various events, promote motorcycle "Poker
Runs", Working with large scale restaurants to sell dinner tickets,Sell PH Violas in front of stores, run raffles/auctions or Bingo (where legal).
4) Request Grant funds from either the Purple Heart Foundation or other large corporations for specific large scale projects.
