GI BILL Students have to pay back money to the VA if they drop out
From Veterans For Change News: We also learned through several Veterans there is a hidden pitfall in your GI Bill Benefits you should be aware of and probably were not informed of when you applied and/or were granted your benefits.
If you are granted your GI Bill benefit, enroll in school, and for what ever reason and/or your disability are not able to complete your program and must drop out, well guess what the school made one huge
profit and YOU personally get to pay the tab as they will garnish your VA Benefits until every last penny is collected.
We've had four Veterans who came to us this past week or so. One Veteran, his wife and young daughter had already been served with eviction papers, another on the verge of eviction, and two who had
enough in savings to carry them a month or so in the hopes they could work it out with the VA.
So be advised, if you apply for these benefits, there is a catch. Don't complete the program(s) being paid for, you will end up paying it all back personally.
